For those of you who remember playing Roller Coaster Tycoon after its inception in the late 90s, you’re looking at a real treat here.
Whilst you’re not looking at a point-for-point port of the original, or Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, you are looking at a mix of the two, which works well. It blends together the best parts of both to faithfully be able to call itself a ‘classic’.
For those of you who haven’t played the game before, Roller Coaster Tycoon is an amusement park building simulator. As the park’s boss, you need to manage a range of things, from what rides you’ll install, what food and drink you’ll make available and how you’ll keep guests happy in the park paradise you’ve created.
On top of this, you’re looking at being given challenges to complete, testing both your management and creation capabilities.
In the past, games which work in this way have seemed to translate well onto mobile devices. Touchscreen capability gives them an extra something when it comes to navigating and creating your park.
Of course, some may remember the title Roller Coaster Tycoon 4 mobile, which released to high expectations but ultimately let fans down. Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic is a different story, with many already praising it for fixing the problems present in 4 Mobile.
For returning players, you can expect to see the same old graphics. Pixels dot the screen everywhere and help to make the games actually nostalgic. Some have complained about the game’s graphics being ‘old’ and that they could do with updating, but for others there’s nothing quite like a return to the roots.
Luckily, players will not have to make in-app purchases. Costing $5.99 for Android and iOS, there are no hidden costs after downloading. Players can optionally invest in some expansion packs, yet this isn’t the same as having to pay to get further in the game faster.
