With the monthly Overwatch update imminent, director, Jeff Kaplan recently revealed to an Overwatch forum thread that we are likely to see the 24th hero join the ranks.
Although not a direct announcement, Kaplan hinted at the addition of the latest hero, saying:
“We’re always asking ourselves ‘what would make the biggest impact for the most people’ when we prioritise. Right now, we feel like introducing a new hero to the line-up would be more impactful to the game. Hope that makes sense.”
Prior to Kaplan’s forum appearance, many believed that the next hero would be Doomfirst after Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor, Terry Crews campaign hard to be the voice behind the character. However, Kapaln revelaed that:
“[the 24th hero] is not who you think it is.”
A possible hint at who the next hero will be came from Eurogamer early yesterday. The game news site revealed that voice actor Alex Malaos had updated his CV to include work on a character referred to as “Greek” for Overwatch. Although subsequently reedited to omit this addition, screengrabs are available to corroborate. Further clues that this may be the 24th hero come in the way of anecdotal evidence of the game’s Greek-set Ilios map being the only one without a direct game character tie-in.
